3DS Tutorial: Reactor Car Rigging - Part 1.
This video shows the way of preparing a car model for animating it with the Reactor Physics Engine inside 3D Studio Max 8.
No sound included, as I have no mic. Hope you’ll gonna understand a bit of it. Part 2 - Animating the car - will come soon.
Cheers,

Hi, I tryed to rig a Warthog riped from Halo2, but it seems that there is some bugs with this model… Can you try to rig it? =) If I send it to you?
When I rigged the one from Halo: CE it worked properly. o_O
Thx

this is a very good tutorial, thank you for sharing it.But i have only one problem with the rig you create here: how do you actually control the turn of the wheels to the left or right?I discovered that you can make the wheels steer more to the right or to the left by modifying the “Tau” setting of the point-point constraints from the front suspension nodes. But for some reason i can’t keyframe that value. Can you help?

You can’t keyfreme Reactor Helpers. But, you can stop Reactor Solve, change parameter and solve it from the pont you want the change to take effect. You keyfreme the animation solve, not the helpers. More less…
Cheers.

It looks like such a good tutorial but it’s super hard to follow without any knowledge of reactor. I don’t know what any of those red things are.

In a period of two weeks I’ll reorganize the tutorial and add comments for My-Mind-Is-Like-2-Year-Old-Child noobs. So don’t worry

Ah! And those red things are simple cilinders. The upper ones are attached to the car with Point-Poin constrained and itts position is fixed to the chassis, the lower are bound to the upper ones with the Prismatic Constraints and the Linear Dashpot, as I remember. It works as suspension. The box-like-red-thing is a link betwean the wheels so they don’t turn independently.
Cheers.
