The Emperor Reborn
Written by webmaster on July 28th, 2008
Here’s my first attempt at animating two characters in the same scene in the form of a lightsaber show, complete with lightsaber glow, motion blur, and fire effects. Perhaps the most challenging part of the project was scripting two different motion flow files for each of the characters, finding the right character meshes to represent Sith apprentices, and arranging the subdued lighting to create a dark, sinister atmosphere.
This project was the final for my Character Animation class which uses 3d studio max, and took a total of 32 weeks to complete. For half of that time I collaborated with my animation colleague, Mundus. We’re both into Egyptology, archeology and all that ancient temples stuff and of course lightsaber battles, so we thought about combining our ideas. This project is the result. Mundus focused mainly on the modeling, while I concentrated on the animation parts.
Also included is a shuttle fly-by and a Coruscant-style city.

Nice work! I love the architecture. Seeing the reference images in the end really shows how much work you guys put into this.
Did you motion capture the fight yourself or were they already done for you?
This looked like fun, hit me up if you ever need help with any future projects, you know my talents.

The idea at the start is pretty good but the whole animation after it is rather pointless.
