3 times of day

So ‘this’ was for my Camera and Lighting class. I had to make a scene and light it so it depicted 3 different times of day. I used dawn, a clear sunny day, and a night time scene. Not sure why I picked a grave yard, and I’m not sure why the shadows of the gravestones have a gap between them and the actual stones. I couldn’t change it so I said “to hell with it”.

My favorite part is the tree in the background. And friend and I were playing a game called Shadow of the Colossus the other day (one of me all time favs) and we were just wondering around in the game, looking at grass and rock textures and whatnot. When we started looking at the trees in the game, we found that they were actually modeled very simply. Some even being as little as 2 polygons crisscrossing each other, each with an opacity map on them to simulate branches. I decided to try and duplicate it in this project for my tree. The actual trunk itself is solid geometry, but the branches are all just flat polygons overlapping each other. From that far away, you can’t even tell the difference!

The sky in all three are just pictures I swiped off of Google Images; but that can be our little secret.
